The concept isn’t different than it has been in the past, but it feels a little less responsive and more sticky. My only gameplay complaint is with the shot stick. Those limitations make the career mode fall more flat than not. To make matters a little worse, there are only 11 licensed golfers in the game, and no women. Instead, it’s more repetitive and the entire enjoyment leans on the gameplay rather than differentiating career mode from other parts of the game. Commentary about career accomplishments, single-season records and goals, and that sort of thing would have created more of a story. Your MyPlayer is engaged in some rivalries, but there are little-to-no sequences that make those aspects of the career mode come alive. I know it’s been re-branded, but TGC had career modes in the past, and this just doesn’t seem like a significant upgrade. The career mode feels very much like the first-ever single-player experience in the series’ history.
